Model Spotlight

Esti Ginzburg
This 20 year-old Israeli model is no newbie to the industry, she's been in it since the age of 8.  After signing a contract with Elite Models in 2006, she replaced the Israeli Covergirl Yael Bar Zohar for a two year contract.  She has been featured on the cover of French Elle and modeled for various designers and has graced the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition three years in a row.  In 2009, Esti was drafted into the military in her country of Isrial, after enlisting voluntarily.  This little fighter has a lot in her and a lot left to give to the modeling world!

Dead Model Walking

Hello to all my readers!

I am writing a paper in one of my classes, and the focus has to be on advertising.  So I am working on research right now, and it is eye-opening!  My focus is basically that designers, editors, and advertisers keep continuously using these deathly-skinny models.  Some designers have tried to put a stop to this by only using models above a certain weight or size.  However, this "revolution" in the industry is a SLOW process, and one that is having a lot of resistance.  It is all supply and demand, research shows that skinny models do sell, that that is what we, as the consumers, want.  And it is so difficult to get all designers on board with this revolution when  top designer Karl Lagerfeld is making comments defending the use of waif-like models, saying "no one wants to look at plus-size women on the runway." (NY Daily News)
Most every model in the industry is a 00 or below ( first of all, 00 is not a number, it's less than 0, it's a negative number) so if there WAS a complete stop in using these models, there wouldn't be any left for designers to use.  These scarily-thin models are considered TOP MODELS in the industry, they are just encouraging future models to be as thin, or thinner than they are.   It is a viciously-scary cycle that needs to be broken.
The concept of "plus size" is so warped in the industry, "plus" to them is the average woman.  Whitney(at right,) from America's Next Top Model (the winner, mind you) was considered a "plus size" model, she is gorgeous and goddess-esque, and looks completely normal and HEALTHY!   When I asked my boyfriend to look at the picture above and the picture to the right he automatically pointed to Whitney and said "she's hot" (I am allowing this comment from him because it is helping with my point lol.)  The fact is, it is not healthy, achievable, and should not be considered desirable to look like these models.  They are dying trying to fit the mold.  Like Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston (above left,)  who died at the hands of anorexia at age 22.
There needs to be more of a focus on this in the industry, it's costing lives.

Fashion Grammy Grades!

The Grammy’s were Sunday and I DEFINITELY have opinions!!!  Some stars were rocking masterpieces, while others..eh, not so much...  So here it is, my

Fashion Grammy Grades!

Rihanna       While others may have flocked toward
Rihanna’s Jean Paul Gaultier gown, I was
turned off.  Not by the gaping strips
throughout the gown (and let’s face it, this
dress left NOTHING to the imagination,
except what color pasties she was wearing
underneath,) but more by the odd strands
of tinsel that seemed to wrap around her body.

Sorry Rihanna, you get a D in my book.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus looked oddly weighed down in her
glitter, tiger-punk, disco ball Roberto Cavalli
creation, and of course, the 20 pound bangles
didn't help.  She looked overly tan and sad, which
isn't surprising due to her recent string of sad circumstances.

Miley, add some color and lightness to your life, cause right now,
you're at C level...

Aaaahhh Nicki Minaj, I've never quite                                     been a fan, but her look Sunday night was
so out there, (and the fact that it was head-
to-toe Givenchy) it won me over!  The faux
fro just added to the deranged
deliciousness of it all!

Way to go Nicki, A!  Keep it up!

We of course cannot leave out the one and only Lady Gaga!  Though we didn't see much of her on the red carpet, what we DID see was a theatrical, artistical piece of genius!!!  Her egg/pod/ womb contraption kept her incubating the length of the red carpet and we were riveted!  Her other looks throughout the night also did not fail to impress!

Like always Lady GaGa, love you and enjoy your A!

These were the top four looks that stood out to me from the 2011 Grammy's!  Another thought...where were the Bs...  Britney, Beyonce, and the Black Eyed Peas? hmmmmmm

Terri Calla:  "Love it, love the dress"

Fashion Report!

The look for fall/ winter 2012: Purely Mystical!

Magic is alluring.  Black Magic, however, is simply seductive.  The colorings include shades of grey, black, turquoise, and white.  Lace, corsets, heavy boots, and rich textures are at the core of this trend.  This trend is elegant, yet dark.  I'm excited to see what comes of it!

Look deep into a crystal ball and you'll see another trend is soon to be Fortune Teller!  The colors range from blues, to purples, to reds.  Fabrics are airy, delicate, layered, lace, with roping, crocheted, transparent pieces.  This trend involves mixtures of textures and lots of layering, which I love, so I'm completely on board with this style!

Heavily inspired by Black Swan, Victorian Rituals, embodies the prima ballerina's dark underbelly, the fragile, glass doll with wandering eyes.  The color scheme includes greys, pinks, and whites.  The textures are rich with satins, lace, and pearls.  The delicateness of this look is stunning, and it is easy to pull off in a casual way.  Ballerinas don't get all the fun!
