My first fashion blog!

Hello, I am Alicia Crabtree and I am a freshman at Kent State University!  My goal is to blog daily about fashion from magazines, to runways, to television shows, to stores.  I hope to one day write for Teen Vogue.  It really is my dream job.  I know how hard it is, I've been told numerous times that it is one of the hardest industries to break into.  However, I have drive, determination, and opinions (many, many opinions.)
Soooo, I shall begin.  Teen Vogue's website has recently written about the top 6 runway trends of fall 2009.  And now, I will give my opinions of them and how to make them fit into your life!

The Boxy Jacket
Now I actually really like this trend because it brings back the feel of the chic, pulled together 40s classic.  Plus it can be pulled off by almost anybody.  I have to admit, I have several of these ranging from herringbone, to black silk, to tan corduroy.  They don't have to be as dramatic as the runway versions, they're meant to be drastic.  Just find a feminine version of a men's jacket that makes you feel sleek and sophisticated and that's really all that matters.
*MY TIP* Pair a box jacket with an over-sized men's shirt and skinny jeans.  Roll the cuffs over the jacket sleeves and pull out the collar.  Throw on a unique necklace to make it more feminine.  It will look effortless and yet extremely chic!

Lacy Layers

This is a fun trend.  And can be used all out (like in the runway picture) or in small doses.  It can come off a tad goth at times.  But when used in the right circumstances, like in the evening, it can look elegant and artsy.
*MY TIP* Take an old black lace dress that maybe was in style five or more years ago and layer it with a new lace top or shrug!

Neon Pop
I LOVE THIS!!!!  It's a great way to make a bold statement without being too loud.  It can also liven up a relatively gray wardrobe, which I would know about, because I'm really into grays right now!! :)
*MY TIP*  Wear a bright neon tee over gray or black leggings and pair it with great boots or heels.  Then, for an unexpected look, add a wild patterned scarf!

The Stylish Sweatpant
This is a fabulous trend, because it's cute and comfy!  You just need to know how to wear it without looking like you just rolled out of the bed so people don't confuse comfy chic with college kid syndrome.  Try pairing your sweats with items you wouldn't normally wear with them.
*MY TIP*  Add to the comfy-ness with an over-sized sweater and a plaid flannel.  Then, to make the outfit more daytime appropriate, cinch a belt at your waist.
[The sweats, sweater, and flannel are from Forever 21 and the belt is from Macy's]

The Sharp-Shouldered Blazer

This trend tends to come off extraordinarily dressy, and therefore, you must be careful if you plan to wear this during the day.  It is a very flattering, chic look that looks great on a lot of people.  I love this look so much, it looks so chic and would be great to wear out on the town.  I actually bought the blazer i'm wearing in the picture at a vintage shop in my college town, it was like five dollars.
*MY TIP*  To tone down the harshness of the blazer, wear it with liquid skinny jeans and a loose fitting top.  Then to add a bit of glam, put on some unique earrings!
[The blazer is from a vintage shop (Einstein's Attic,) the earrings are from Nordstrom's, the shirt and jeans are from Forever 21]

The Cozy Cardigan

This is a great look, because you can basically steal your mom or dad's old over-sized cardigan and bring it back to life.  They're cozy and completely "in" right now.  I have a BUNCH of these, they look great with basically anything and can pretty much pull together an outfit.
*MY TIP* Just wear this cardigan with some jeans and boots, it will look boho chic, especially with an eclectic necklace.
[The cardigan, shirt, and jeans are from Forever 21, the boots are from Macy's, and the necklace is from H&M]

Well, I did it, that was my first blog, I hope, if anyone is actually reading this, that you enjoyed it and my tips and opinions!! I shall be back tomorrow, au revoir all! :)
