My true style sense, I'm coming to realize, is a mixture of eclectic-classic-rocker-boho-chic. When I look back at that, it seems to be too many adjectives to make up a single person's style. And yet, when I look at my wardrobe, that really IS what it is made up of. I have eclectic blazers, scarves, and pea coats which I found at vintage and resale shops, classic basics like a black pencil skirt and a white wool trench, rocker tees and liquid leggings, bohemian sweaters and suede boots, and chic ballet flats and jewelry. I love to get pieces that are unique, that are special. I am a true anti-Abercrombie. Why would you buy something that a million other kids have, that basically turns you into a walking advertisement. This is probably why most of my wardrobe is made up of clothing from Forever 21. They have soooo many different looks and clothing at cheap prices. And there's never more than a couple of each item, so it's fun to delve into the store and see what you can find. They change their inventory daily, so you'll never see the same thing twice.

So when I saw who donned the cover of this month's Teen Vogue, I was ecstatic. Jessica Szohr, from Gossip Girl, is the perfect example of boho-chic. She's so different from other young celebrities today. I love the show Gossip Girl, it is like a fashion magazine in and of itself. Me and my girlfriends at college have gossip girl nights ALL the time, we can't get enough of it. The way outfits are put together and styled on the show, it makes young women and even men really look at what they're wearing and try to look better. I truly hate the mindset that "since I'm in high school or since I'm in college, I don't have to try, I can just wear sweats, it's what everyone else is doing." I think you should always look presentable and stylish, and it doesn't have to cost a lot. Trust me, I should know. For years, my father was unemployed and I could not afford to buy the gorgeous clothes that covered the pages of the magazines. But I rummaged through second hand shops and vintage stores and found some of my favorite items that I still have today. Even after my dad got a good job, I didn't shop at expensive stores. I discovered Forever 21 and H&M. Cheap-chic stores!! I love them and I really don't shop anywhere else.

I also LOVE jewelry. My favorite pair of earrings are these sterling silver leaves, they go with EVERYTHING. I think eclectic jewelry adds a bit of whimsy to any outfit.
Since I've been in college, I think I've really come into my own style. I wear things now, that I never would have in high school. Like leggings, I'd never thought about wearing them before, I didn't think they would work for me, but now, it's basically all I wear ( I have like six or seven pairs.) They look good with any shirt and are much sleeker than bell-bottom jeans.
I believe a big part of me taking a step back and realizing that I wanted a true style was Gossip Girl. There is no other show like it, and it treats its teenage characters like adults, if it's dealing with their issues or their wardrobes. So I think Jessica was a perfect choice for the cover of Teen Vogue this month. She, along with her co-stars, inspire teenagers to look their best no matter what.
Gossip Girl Nights!!!!
